Sculpture & Woodworking Classes
For Young people & Adults

Intentions

To offer stimulating, curriculum based, hands on, daytime studio sculpture and woodworking classes to the young and the young at heart.
To teach the safe use of hand and power tools while manipulating an assortment of materials.
To give each student instruction and studio time once or twice a week with each meeting being 2 hours long.
Students’ ages range from 7 and up.

Statement of Philosophy

I want to provide the students that enter my studios an educational experience that will challenge their creative and intellectual capacities while at the same time giving them a safe environment where they may invent and dream and build. They need a place where independence of thought, intellectual integrity, and personal and social morality is fostered. They deserve a place where the classes are small enough so that they are taught in accordance with their needs and abilities, while at the same time they learn to function effectively and responsibly within a group. The studio environment should be supportive and stimulating, and it should encourage the children to take risks, to exercise increasing independence, and to reflect on their own personal experience in their work. It should be a place where the imagination is realized and passion is sparked. There is a rich variety of modes of expression and forms of creation and in these studios the students will sample their disciplines and diversities. It is my desire to foster a learning community in which students experience respect for the integrity of their efforts, whether these efforts result in success or failure. I recognize that I cannot achieve any of my objectives unless the students’ experiences are predominantly positive, joyful, and creative.
